The Joy of a Holiday Weekend

I love that it's Sunday evening and tomorrow there is no school, no work, no lunches to be made and I don't have to get up at 5:30 am to enjoy quietness and an early morning workout.  I can get up at 7, enjoy coffee, peace in the house and still get in a morning workout.  It's like a Sunday BUT it's Monday!!!

Our weekend plans got turned around since Nate couldn't play in his soccer tournament.  No early morning games, no sitting at the field all day. We've been able to be at home, get things done around the house at a leisurely pace and not stress about getting to a game or squeezing everything in before the 2 day weekend is over!  My husband and I actually went to Whole Foods together today . . . like we used to do pre-kids!  Oh, how I wish we had 3 day weekends every month!!!

Whole Foods with my husband is a different experience; I more expensive experience!  He did make great choices . . . . peaches, plums, apricots, veggies for roasting and chicken and steaks. I LOVE the HUGE selection of fresh fruits and vegetables at this time of year.  I did have to explain to him that banana cream pie even at Whole Foods is still banana cream pie which means not a healthy choice.  I lost that battle and I have some very happy peeps in my house tonight!

It's been great to not "have" to be somewhere this weekend.  I took a little bit of meal plan and prep for the week.  I cut fruit which typically ensures it gets eaten by everyone.  I roasted veggies, hard boiled eggs, and even have chicken marinating for tomorrow.  I love that feeling of getting out ahead of the game!

No rushed feeling tonight. No feeling like the week is upon us.  No kids rushing to print out that homework they waited until the last minute to do.  Will I feel all that tomorrow?  Maybe but I am going to hold on to this feeling a little bit longer.  There is just something so different and wonderful about a Sunday that really isn't your typical Sunday, a Sunday that ends with banana cream pie!! :)

Enjoy that extra day, sleep in later, drink an extra cup of coffee, take a nice walk or hike
and enjoy a Monday of no rushing!!  Happy Memorial Day!!
